Local govt elections: IEC to meet with political parties 'sometime this month'

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) is steaming ahead with preparations for the local government elections later this year, although it did get a legal opinion about the possibility of an extension.

Chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo said, via a spokesperson, that the commission is yet to meet with political party representatives to discuss the issue. However, with the Covid-19 lockdown regulations having been relaxed to Level 1, the meeting should take place sometime this month.
