Former DA leader Mmusi Maimane says genuine economic redress cannot be achieved without acknowledging the issue of race in the matter. This as his former party adopts a means-based approach to redress, without regard to skin colour.

The party also denies growing claims that it has been purging black leaders.

The DA has caused some flurry among South Africans following its inaugural policy conference over the weekend, where it adopted "non-racialism" as one of its principles and dropped race as a factor in its economic justice policy.
