A 28-year-old man accused of assaulting his four-month-old baby so severely that the child suffered broken ribs and a broken femur, has now been charged with attempted murder.

The father, who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the victim known as 'Baby M', briefly appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning.

He wanted to apply for bail, but the matter was postponed as the father wants to lead viva voce [oral] evidence, and intends on calling witnesses to the stand.
