South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) General-Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi has called on law enforcement offices to act on political players who he says also had a hand in the Marikana massacre, he made the call on the ninth commemoration of the massacre,.
Vavi singled out former President Jacob Zuma, Susan Shabangu and Nathi Mthethwa, and President Cyril Ramaphosa, who, at the time of the massacre, was a non-executive director at Lonmin.
Vavi believes that they played a critical part in the events that led to striking mineworkers at Lonmin in Marikana being mowed down on 16 August 2012 in a bloody massacre, leaving 34 miners dead and over 78 injured.
