A matric pupil has been found dead at a Limpopo high school while attending a weekend study camp.

He has been identified as Phillimon Mkomo from Tshamahansi village.

According to Ledwaba, he was part of a group of pupils attending a camp with extra classes in preparation for their exams.

"He reportedly [snuck out on] Saturday, and… the guardians at school were looking for him but could not find him," Ledwaba added.

Ledwaba said an assessment of the scene where Mkomo was found "pointed to the possibility that the victim might have been stabbed somewhere else and thereafter ran towards the school", before collapsing behind one of the buildings.

Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the incident and appealed to residents with information to come forward and assist the police in tracking down the killers.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Munzhedzi Patrick Bebeda, on 083 721 8652, the nearest police station, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
