Two senior municipal officials implicated in inflating Covid-19 tenders had their suspensions upheld and were ordered to pay court costs after they brought an application to be reinstated as their suspension affected their self-worth and performance bonus.

Lebo Ralekgetho and Tumisang Moeketsane, respectively the municipal manager and the chief financial officer at the JB Marks local municipality in Potchefstroom, were suspended after accusations that they had cooked tenders for personal protective equipment.

The two have been accused of fraudulently backdating procurement documents and of failing to ensure that proper, comprehensive records were kept of all financial transactions in the municipality.
