National police deployments work, but only if there is a plan of action – expert

A policing expert says a solid plan of action is crucial to the success of any form of national police deployment to high crime areas, else the additional support will amount to very little.

Police Minister Bheki Cele has deployed around 310 police officers with varied skills, including analysts, detectives and public order policing, to KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape to mitigate incidents in high crime areas.

Cele announced the move on Wednesday while visiting the Plessislaer police station.
