A high level meeting between Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC Zolile Williams and newly elected Nelson Mandela Bay mayor, Retief Odendaal, will be held on Thursday to discuss making changes to the mayoral executive system of the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality.

Odendaal is fighting tooth and nail to stop the department from amending Section 12 of the Municipal Structures Act which will lead to the scrapping of the current mayoral executive system for a ward participatory system.

The provincial department of Cogta is planning to replace the collective executive with a ward participatory system that would take powers away from a mayor and allow for a new committee to run things.
