The clock is ticking for the Department of Health to get over 500 SA medical students back home as they lie stranded in Cuba since last year.

Many of the medical students have completed their fifth year of their studies in Cuba and say they have been living in deplorable conditions.

The students have not received their stipends since May. They were expected to return last year following the completion of their studies but they haven't been able to travel due to the global Covid-19-related travel restrictions.
