In an apparent dig at secretary-general Ace Magashule, ANC chairperson Gwede Mantashe rubbished claims that only branches can call on ANC leaders to step aside.
Mantashe, together with the party's top six, visited the troubled North West to evaluate progress in the rebuilding of the ANC in the province.
"[The saying that] nobody can touch us, only branches can touch us is a myth. Every member of the ANC is under the jurisdiction of the ANC structures. They have authority of over us."
