Both the DA and EFF are looking at opposing the ANC's application in the Electoral Court to try and amend the Electoral Commission of South Africa's (IEC) election timetable, the opposition parties announced on Friday.

This follows the ANC's announcement that it would approach the Electoral Court because the system put in place by the IEC for ward councillor candidate list registrations was not up to standard.

Briefing the media on Thursday afternoon, ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte said technical "glitches" in the system disrupted it from exercising its right to register some ward councillor candidates by Monday's 21:00 deadline.
