The lawyer representing Reeva Steenkamp's parents has questioned why parole authorities persisted with Oscar Pistorius' parole hearing, when they now claim to have received clarification that he wasn't eligible for release until August next year.

"That hearing should never have happened," attorney Tania Koen told News24, before again stressing the deep emotional impact and trauma it had caused to Reeva's parents.
