Almost 10 years ago, two senior SAPS officials were arrested after being accused of using police funds to hold a birthday celebration for then police divisional commissioner Khomotso Phahlane.

The officers have now won a damages claim against the Minister of Safety and Security (now Minister of Police) and two of its officials for the unlawful arrest.
