With law enforcement agencies probing a list of instigators of the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, it has created panic among supporters of former president Jacob Zuma and his most vocal allies.

On Thursday, the government announced that one alleged instigator of the violent unrest, which has claimed the lives of 117 people, was in police custody.

Acting Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said, of the list of 12 people the government believed to be at the centre of the "well-orchestrated economic sabotage", one unnamed person was arrested.
