Scores of Kagiso residents took the law into their own hands on Thursday when they combed mine dumps in the township during a manhunt for zama zamas.
It forced police into action and comes a day after the ANC's spokesperson, Pule Mabe, encouraged South Africans to join "protest action against illegal immigrants, zama zamas and rapists".
This stance was on full display when ANC members protested outside the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, where 60 people appeared on charges related to being illegally in the country.
