After her deputy distanced herself from a so-called investigation that is becoming the latest battlefield in Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's Stalingrad defence against her impeachment, Mkhwebane insists that there is an investigation and blames the confusion on "unfortunate lapses in internal communication".
On Thursday, Deputy Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka said a reference indicating that she was guiding a Public Protector investigation into a controversial SMS sent by Ismail Abramjee was a "misrepresentation" and "untrue".
This, after News24 reported on a letter Mkhwebane's lawyers sent to Parliament, stating that Gcaleka would "guide" an investigation into the SMS, which has become a key pillar in Mkhwebane's latest attempt to stymie Parliament's impeachment proceedings against her.
