A nurse at the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Johannesburg faces disciplinary action after she came up with a concoction of medical steriliser to prepare patients for abdominal surgeries, resulting in several infections.
A probe into the hospital by health ombud Professor Malegapuru Makgoba found that during August and September 2022, the hospital ran out of Povidone-iodine and SteriPrep solutions.
The operational manager for the theatre department, Sister Thembela Goduka, was informed the hospital's chief executive, Dr Nozuko Precious Mkabayi, had instructed them to borrow stock from other health facilities.
