South Africa will hold its breath on Thursday as the ANC’s national leadership meets to discuss President Cyril Ramaphosa’s future after his leadership of party and state was plunged into crisis on Wednesday night.
An independent panel, under the leadership of a former chief justice and appointed by the speaker of Parliament, made damning findings against the president related to the theft of $580 000 from his game farm in Limpopo. According to the panel, Ramaphosa quite possibly contravened anti-corruption laws, violated the constitution, abused his power and was party to deliberately concealing an investigation.
Gwede Mantashe, the ANC’s national chairperson, told News24 the meeting of the ANC’s national executive committee will start at 19:00.
