South Africa won't be in executive management of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for the next eight years, but it most likely will be in a more powerful position.
In August, South Africa will be able to wield more power to drive an agenda for free elections and peace in the region when President Cyril Ramaphosa chairs SADC's organ for politics, defence, and security.
Recent engagements with the SADC region revealed that South Africa did not have enough points to compete for the position of the Executive Secretary of the Secretariat.
