There is no direct terror threat to South Africa, Deputy Minister of State Security Zizi Kodwa emphasised, as he slated the US Embassy for not following proper protocol when issuing an alert about a possible attack planned for Sandton this week.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Thursday evening, Kodwa criticised the US Embassy for releasing information about the potential threat without discussing it with the government.
Kodwa stressed that the government was keen to work with foreign intelligence services, but the country's sovereignty needed to be respected.
