Sassa loses R282 million to fraud over the past 5 years

Over the past five years, more than R282 million has been looted from the SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) - the entity responsible for distributing social grants to more than 16 million South Africans.

This according to a response by Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu to a parliamentary question from EFF MP Laetitia Arries.

Arries asked how many Sassa officials have been suspended or fired for defrauding the institution over the past years, how much money Sassa lost through fraud and what measures were in place to prevent fraud.
