Unions and parents in the Western Cape have raised concerns about pupils returning to school on Monday while the province is still facing a public transport crisis amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the Congress of South African Students (Cosas), opening schools during an ongoing taxi war will leave pupils from previously disadvantaged families at risk and make them fall even further behind on their school work.
"This leaves us again in a situation where those who come from previously disadvantaged families will not be able to receive nor submit their school work," Cosas provincial secretary Mphumzi Giwu said.
