The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) wants an order interdicting the Eastern Cape Department of Health from making a payment of about R10.1 million for 100 scooters.
Eastern Cape Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba is expected to appear before the SIU's Special Tribunal following allegations of financial irregularities involving her department in the R10 million contract.
Gomba, departmental superintendent general Dr Thobile Mbengashe, chief financial officer M Daca, and the Fabkomp (Pty) Ltd will appear on Friday at 10:00.
In court documents, the SIU says, should payment be made, the department would incur irregular expenditure to the value of R10.1 million, "a significant loss to the public finances held by the department".
"Also, in light of the intended modification, the procured goods are clearly not able to meet the needs of the department and the provision of public health services to the communities of the Eastern Cape province," it says.
