The State Security Agency (SSA) spent a staggering R9 billion on assets that it "lost" – nearly half the R20 billion the government is now trying to raise to vaccinate South Africans against Covid-19.

"How could you have a government department not be able to account for R9 billion…and I have a suspicion that no heads rolled," a visibly shocked Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo told acting SSA director-general Loyiso Jafta, on day two of the State Capture Inquiry's explosive hearing into South Africa's controversial spy authority.
