A man in Mpumalanga has been arrested for allegedly trading counterfeit money after he was found in possession of fake US dollars with a face value of more than R160 000.
The 48-year-old man was arrested in Middelburg on Thursday in a joint operation between the Hawks and Crime Intelligence officers in the province. He was caught attempting to exchange the counterfeit money, said Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi.
The man is expected to appear in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court on Friday. He will be charged with contravening the Prevention of Counterfeit Currency Act.
Investigations were still under way, added Sekgotodi.
