The ANC's provincial executive committee (PEC) has forced the hand of Gauteng Premier David Makhura, urging him to appoint a health MEC in two weeks after he said he would not replace Bandile Masuku until the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) issues a final report.
This could mean Makhura may have to reshuffle his executive or elect from an assortment of candidates in the ANC caucus in the legislature.
He has been biding his time and waiting for the final SIU report after he was forced to fire Masuku who is one of his strongest allies. When he announced Masuku's axing, the premier said he would be reinstated if cleared by the SIU.
