A truck driver has died after crashing into a bridge on the N1 near Klapmuts on Friday morning.
Sections of the highway had been closed to allow emergency personnel to work on the scene, confirmed Western Cape transport department spokesperson Jandré Bakker.
"[A] single heavy motor vehicle crash occurred at approximately 05.10 on N1 inbound at Klapmuts," said Bakker.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle, he added.
Western Cape Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Deanna Bessick said the accident took place between the Klapmuts and Klipheuwel turn offs.
The driver, in a truck with a double trailer, was reportedly traveling towards Cape Town, when it went off the road.
“Bystanders witnessed the truck swaying and eventually [drive] off the road and crash into a bridge on the side of the road. Unfortunately, the truck driver died on the scene. EMS Rescue had to use jaws of life to extricate the patient,” Bessick said.
