Two men appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga for the murder of a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) member.

Nondumiso Nicollin Mabila, 30, was murdered on 9 September in Tonga.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said:

[A] police report indicates that on the said day, the SANDF member was in full uniform and in the early hours of the morning came out of her house, heading to work… It is said that as soon as she came out of the house, she was…attacked and stabbed several times to death by [the] suspects before [they fled] the scene, leaving her bleeding profusely.

A relative discovered her lifeless body in a pool of blood outside her home.

"Police and medical personnel were notified, and upon their arrival at the scene, the woman was unfortunately certified dead by the paramedics. A murder case was opened accordingly and police from Tonga immediately began with their investigation which led to the arrest of Thabo Mambane, 21, and Ndumiso Mabila, 31," Mohlala added.

They are expected to apply for bail on 27 September 2021.
