Police are on the hunt for a group of men responsible for a cash-in-transit heist in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.

The group made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said the cash van was ambushed at Umhlantuze Bridge, between Nkandla and Melmoth.

She said the gang "appeared from the bushes, firing shots, forcing it to come to a stop".

No injuries were reported.

In videos shared on social media, the group can be seen forcing the guards out of the vehicle, before blowing it up in order to access the money.

Muridili appealed to anyone with information to contact the police's Crime Stop number on  08600 10111 or send tip-offs on the MySAPS App.
