Officials from the City of Cape Town are working to remove a whale carcass from the rocks at Sea Point Promenade.

According to ward councillor Nicola Jowell, the carcass was spotted on Thursday morning after washing up during the night.
"The humpback whale is on the rocks and is already deceased. It is a very large whale, although the exact size is not yet known," she said.
At the time of publication, there was no information on the cause of death.
Jowell said the City's coastal management teams were on site and would request the help of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) to remove the carcass.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the organisation had not yet been roped into any removal operations but would be available should its assistance be required.
"The experts will determine the best course of action. [The] department of fisheries is also part of the engagements," Jowell said.
In October, the carcass of a nine-metre female humpback whale was found on Melkbosstrand, also in Cape Town. The carcass was removed the same day. The whale appeared to have died of natural causes.
