Free State ANC spokesperson Thabo Meeko admitted the provincial leadership dragged its feet in responding to concerns raised by its Mangaung caucus, which resulted in the ousting of mayor Olly Mlamleli.

Speaking to News24 on Thursday, Meeko said the party's leadership acknowledged this when speaking to the councillors after the vote of no confidence against Mlamleli.

"I can assure you that, when we spoke to the councillors, we did admit that issues you raise with us - maybe we dragged [our feet], but it couldn't [result in] this situation."
