ANC leaders in the Western Cape are fuming after the party's councillors in the Kannaland Municipality seemingly entered into a coalition with the Kannaland Independent Party without a mandate from their party leadership.

An urgent council meeting was convened in the municipality on Wednesday, and a motion of no confidence was tabled against mayor Jeffrey Donson, deputy mayor Werner Meshoa and district representative on the municipality Hyron Ruiters from the Icosa party.

The motion succeeded and the council appointed new leaders.
