
Western Cape police have arrested a 19-year-old for the rape and assault of a 75-year-old woman who was known to him in Riversdale.
Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies, said the teen was charged with rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Spies said investigations revealed that the 75-year-old woman was at home on Sunday when an intruder entered her flat.
"He allegedly assaulted the victim before he forced himself onto her and later violated her before he fled the scene. The victim managed to raise the alarm, and neighbours responded [and] alerted police," Spies said.

She was taken to a hospital.
A search team was immediately assembled and searched for the attacker.
"The 19-year-old was arrested and remains in police custody. He is expected to make his first court appearance in the Riversdale Magistrate's Court on the mentioned charges," Spies said.
Western Cape police management commended officers for their swift response.
