It was a typical week day for some of the Nelson Mandela Bay metro areas identified as hotspots – cabs and taxis hooting to pick up passengers, kids playing in the streets, and adults queuing up at banks and stores - but no physical distancing was observed and, at times, no masks were worn.
"It's a daily norm," Phumlani Nyathi, a resident from Kwanobuhle, a township on the outskirts of Uitenhage, said as a government mortuary vehicle drove past.
