A woman was rescued after falling while on a hike in the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve in Johannesburg on Sunday.
According to a statement from ER24, the woman suffered serious injuries in the fall while out hiking with a friend in the mountains of the reserve on Sunday morning. The woman is understood to be in her mid to late 20s.
"It is believed that she slipped on a rock and fell at around 09:00, suffering fractures to the arm and lower leg. ER24's Joburg South crews managed to reach the patient by 11:45 after an hour and a half hike," the statement read.
The woman was treated for dehydration and with advanced life support interventions for pain. She was immobilised in a Stokes basket for the hike down the mountain.
"ORRU Mountain Rescue also arrived to help with the extraction, the whole team managing to get the patient down from the trail to the waiting ambulance by 14:25," the statement read.
The woman was then transported to a private hospital in the area for further care.
