Your weather: Severe thunderstorms to hit parts of the country on Monday

The South African Weather Service issued warnings for severe thunderstorms in parts of the country, which could result in localised flooding.

Impact-based warnings:

Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, resulting in localised flooding of low susceptible formal/informal settlements and roads, and large amounts of small hail and excessive lightning could cause localised damage to property in places over Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the eastern parts of the Free State and North West, extending to central and northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Orange level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms, resulting in flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas as well as the closure of bridges and roads. Large amounts of small hail could damage vehicles, and excessive lightning could cause danger to life and damage to property, as well as strong winds that could damage formal and informal houses or structures over the highveld of Mpumalanga.

Fire danger warning:

Conditions are favourable for the development of veld fires expected in places in the interior of the Northern Cape, the west of North West and the north of Free State.

In Gauteng, it will be partly cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Mpumalanga will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the lowveld.

Partly cloudy and warm to hot, becoming cloudy in the evening in Limpopo, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the west and central parts. It will be widespread in the south.

In the North West, it will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.

The Free State will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.

Condition in the Northern Cape will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east, but fine over the western interior.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

In the Western Cape, it will be fine over the western parts in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, but cloudy along the south coast from the afternoon.

Isolated showers and thundershowers are possible over the extreme eastern parts at first.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south to south-westerly, but south-easterly along the south-west coast at first.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

The Eastern Cape will be cloudy and cool, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the south-east.

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-easterly east of Cannon Rocks at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly, reaching strong at times.

Morning fog patches are expected over the interior of KwaZulu-Natal.

It will be partly cloudy to cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the north.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly, becoming fresh south-westerly from the extreme south in the afternoon, spreading to Richards Bay in the evening.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.
