Grahamstown - Tensions rose at Rhodes University on Wednesday morning following a standoff between police and students protesting a recently released list naming alleged rapists on campus.

According to various tweets on social media under #RUReferenceList, students continued protesting for a third day outside the campus’s drama department.
A barricade was put up halting cars from entering the premises at Eden Grove.
Around 08:30, police entered the campus, seemingly armed, and started to remove the barricade.
Students claimed in various videos that fellow students had been shot with rubber bullets, while others were pepper sprayed.
One student was held in a police van after being pepper sprayed.
Three students have reportedly been arrested, according to students.
Eastern Cape police were not immediately available for comment when contacted by News24 on Wednesday morning.
