It took over a month for Supreme Court of Appeal President Mandisa Maya to finally receive former president Jacob Zuma's latest legal bid to remove his corruption prosecutor, Billy Downer, and just three days to dismiss it.

The delay in Maya receiving Zuma's application for a reconsideration of the dismissal of his so-called "special plea", in which his lawyers tried to suggest that the July unrest had been caused by public outrage over the Constitutional Court's "unjust" decision to jail the former president for contempt, resulted in his long-awaited corruption trial being postponed to August.
