Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza has a tough gig: she needs to walk the tightrope between creating the optimal environment for the agricultural sector – a key sector for economic growth, employment and food security- and land reform – essential for social justice and restoring historical wrongs.
The often fraught relationship between organised agriculture and government appears to have eased under Didiza. In tough times, the agriculture sector showed growth in the second quarter of 2022 and was a major driving force in South African economy growing in the third quarter.
Land reform is one of the governing ANC's biggest failures since it came to power in 1994, and it continues at an almost indiscernible pace.
