9 Last minute Easter activities you need to know about

Cape Town – If you’ve been caught up in work and life and haven’t even thought about the long Easter Weekend up until now, we know how you feel.

It feels like we were making New Year’s resolutions just last week, and here we are in the midst of the first school holiday already!

Time flies, but this doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a most relaxing Easter break with your family.

We’ve lined up our favourite last-minute Easter activities. These are all relatively close to SA’s big cities, making it the perfect, last minute breakaway with the whole family.

What will you get up to?

Get out and about…
Groote Post has put together the perfect local-is-lekker Easter round up for the family on Easter Sunday.

The market will present a perfect playground for children who will love the rolling lawns, tractor rides and face painting, to name a few of the activities. And, as a special treat for Easter, the Groote Post Market team will be handing out Easter eggs to all the kids.

Parents can expect delectable and beautiful country offerings including artisan foods, arts and crafts, and more.

Groote Post’s wines will also be available for tasting and purchase, including the delicious Groote Post Rosé which is made exclusively for their monthly markets!

Laugh out loud…
An ensemble of hilarious funnymen have cooked up and authentic, Durban-style comedy feast and are ready to serve it on local comedy fans over the Easter weekend at Sibaya’s iZulu Theatre – KZN’s house of funny.

In the mix for the outrageously funny comedy fest, Curry Balls, are Jason Goliath, Nicholas Goliath, Neville Pillay and Masood Boomgaard amongst others. They hit the stage every day over the Easter Weekend!

Parklife…
Parklife Cape Town is the perfect day out for the entire family and a relaxed way to end your Easter Weekend.

Artists like Xavier Rudd, Civil Twilight, Jeremy Loops, Goodluck, Just Jinjer, Desmond & the Tutus, Al Bairre, Majozi, Josh Wantie and Sweet Resistance will entertain fans in the Green Point Stadium, next to Hamilton’s cricket Club on Monday.

Pack a picnic, and the whole family, and enjoy!

City life…
The Easter holidays are jam packed with “egg-citing” things to do with children at GrandWest. Puppet shows, Easter Bunny appearances, face painting, balloon twisting, magic shows, and arts and crafts workshops and a grand scale Easter egg hunt are just some of the activities children can look forward to.

On Easter Sunday, the festivities reach fever pitch with an Easter egg hunt, taking place from 12:00.

The Easter egg hunt includes a host of fun filled activities such as pom pom painting, colouring in, biscuit decorating, Easter puppet making and chocolate play dough sculpting.

Sounds at Sun City…
Literally something for every type of music lover…

Afrikaans pop and rock performer, Dozi, will perform live at Sun City’s Valley of Waves over the Easter weekend as part of the resort’s super charged We love Holidays campaign.

If Afrikaans is not your thing, don’t fret. On Easter Monday, awardwinning beatboxer, Mogran Beatbox takes the reigns to entertain revellers at the Valley of Waves.

Music fans are in for an awesome set by the artist who is the only beatboxer worldwide that produces a mind blowing seven sounds all at once!

Sun City advises visitors to pre-purchase a day passes, as visitors are limited to 3 000 per day.

Drive in…
Take the kids to see a classic film in the most classic fashion – parked in the family sedan! Spier’s Drive-in nights are perfect for couples – young and old – and are a hit with kids too.

There will be a food stall at the screening where you can purchase snacks. Soft drinks and wine with glasses will also be available.

You may also pre-order “Drive in Snack Packs to Share” to be collected at the food stall at the screening.

Farm family fun…
Vergenoegd will be hosting an array of Easter lunches, dinners, Easter eggs hunts and more. With their quality wines and fames picnics, it’s a perfect one-stop destination for mom, dad, grandpa, grandpa and all the kids.

Every day, the Duck Parade happens at 09:45 and 15:30 promptly. Daily wine tasting and wine sales will also continue throughout March.

A touch of class…
Easter is always a huge event at One&Only Cape Town, with special family-friendly activities and offerings throughout the resort.

Easter Afternoon Tea is inspired by none other than the Easter bunny - with carefully crafted Easter cakes taking centre stage on the weekend’s Afternoon Tea table.

Traditional fancies like handmade toffees and of course enough chocolate to keep every sweet-toothed guest happy will be on offer.

Under the Stars…
Opt for a movie night of a different kind. In South Africa, we are blessed with the best weather, making late nights under the stars a real treat.

Choose one of the plenty outdoor movie-houses situated across the country, and treat your loved one or family with a nostalgic night out.

At many of these old-school events, you can bring your own snacks and drinks or buy some delicious fare at the screening.
