Game ranger attacked by hippo during morning patrols

Cape Town - A game ranger from a private game reserve in Pietermaritzburg is in a serious condition on Thursday morning after his arm was bitten by a hippo.

Russel Mering from ER24 said the incident had taken place during the ranger's morning patrols and no tourists were in the area or involved in the incident.

ER24 paramedics from the Pietermaritzburg arrived on the scene and on assessment found that the man had sustained severe crush injuries to his right arm.

Paramedics provided the patient with advanced life support intervention and thereafter transported him to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for urgent medical treatment.
