Cape Town - Best be aware of the dangers out there before you find yourself unknowingly eating jellyfish or sleeping with rat! This week's discussion on #TTOT had followers' spines quivering...
Each Tuesday at 11:30 (GMT) the twitter-verse comes together to talk about one of the best subjects on the planet - Travelling. You'll come away knowing more about the world and the differences in cultures around the world. Chances are it may just spark your next holiday adventure.
This week's subject was 'Travel Gross-outs' and it certainly wasn't for the faint-hearted. If you're a true traveller, however, these tweets might just get to excited to go explore more!
The last question got the tweeters very excited, especially. This is what they had to share:
Question 5: What is the grossest food you've ever tried?
A5 We are kind of curious about the famous French cheese with live worms in it! #ttot— Char, Carolina, Jess (@UKGlamLifestyle) September 9, 2014
#ttot A5. Ducks' tongues and chickens' feet which were served stone cold. They'd have probably been better if they were hot...but then again— Prima Visa (@PrimaVisas) September 9, 2014
The rest of the conversation was equally entertaining. Rest assured that no matter how gross your travel experience might have been, someone else's was equally bad - or even worse!
Question 1: What have you done while travelling you admit was gross?
Question 2: Gross hotels - where was the worst one and why?
A2: I stayed at a hotel in Armenia where you couldn't flush and they only turned the water once the loo's reached tipping point #ttot— RealWorld Holidays (@RealWorldHols) September 9, 2014
A2 Hostel in Chamonix, wasn't their fault. Turns out mountain climbers have extremely smelly feet! My eyes watered... #ttot— FindTransfers (@FindTransfers) September 9, 2014
Question 3: Have you come across any local customs or traditions that have grossed you out?
A3. I will never get over the fact that people eat dog. I know it's in their culture so I'm not knocking it, but I could never. #TTOT— Sandy B (@SandalsDownUnda) September 9, 2014
A3: We're not saying its the grossest thing ever, but sitting down for a meal of cold pig fat with Ukrainians was weird (but tasty) #ttot— Barcelona Experience (@bcn_exp) September 9, 2014
A3: Parts of Bihar India, where people hunt rats for cooking them up... so gross #ttot— bookaHotel.in (@bookaHotel_in) September 9, 2014
Question 4: What is something "normal" in your country that visitors often find gross?
A4: South Africans can be quite conservative, so beaches overseas where people whip the kits off makes us nervous & stutter a little #ttot— Moving Sushi (@moving_sushi) September 9, 2014
A4 Mopani worms in South Africa? Never tried it, I cant imagine eating worms #ttot Although it is supposedly a delicacy— Zaid -Travpacker.com (@zaidmo) September 9, 2014
