More Sun City expansions announced!

Cape Town - Just when you thought Sun City has developed to its full potential, the destination continues to surprise us by its on-going expansion and progression in an effort to maintain itself as one of South Africa’s premier lifestyle destinations.

The expanded accommodation choices to countryside-like Cabanas Chalets comes shortly after Sun City installed a brand new waterslide, an addition to its existing six waterslides.

Colin Jonkers, Sun International Group Retail Manager, explains the excitement of going down the slide, “The slide is an exhilarating experience, from the moment you stand in the launch capsule, facing forward and arms crossed. Anticipation peaks as you wait for the trap door to open below, sending you into an intense vertical free-fall into the loop with speeds that will leave you breathless.”

The new Cabanas Chalets is located 750m from the Cabanas hotel, nestled beside the Letsatsi bush, which is close to the Cultural Village of the resort.

The chalets have always been operated by Kwena Gardens, which included Kwena Chalets and Crocodile Sanctuary, since 1999. But has now become a part of the Sun City fold, managed by Sun International.

“Sun City is the flagship property of Africa’s largest tourism, leisure and gaming group. It has a special place in the hearts of the millions of people who visit the resort each year,” Mike van Vuuren, managing executive of Sun City says.

”With this substantial investment we strive to continue being unrivalled when it comes to providing our guests with superb hospitality options…”

There are a total of 14 chalets, each accommodating between one and four people, including a Luxury Chalet with a king-sized bed, a separate living area and an en-suite bathroom.

Although the chalets are inspired by rustic design, they are fully equipped with modern mini bars, a coffee machine and even WiFi… not so ‘rustic’ after all!

“The Cabanas Chalets offer holidaymakers to Sun City a new, very special experience. Located securely within the confines of the resort but neatly tucked away from the bustle, Cabanas Chalets offer guests a serene sanctuary while allowing them easy access to the resort’s facilities and action. Sun City is delighted to continue the proud heritage of the chalets.” adds Mike.

Moreover, the overall accommodation options at Sun City now include three-star Cabanas hotel and Cabanas Chalets, a four-star Sun City Hotel, the five-star Cascades hotel and the luxury hotel, The Palace.

Some fun activities at Sun City for the whole family include:

26 restaurants
2 golf courses
7 waterslides
A wave pool
Jet skiing
Boat cruises
Jogging trails
Quad biking
Floodlit tennis courts
A zip slide

Ultimately, earlier this year, Sun International announced it would be giving Sun City an R800m facelift but the amount was soon adjusted to R1bn, R200m more than initially forecast. Some of these funds went towards the new additions and the refurbishment of Sun City is expected to be complete in 2017. Some great things are coming!
