Orcas, southern rights and dolphins are all in town, it's time to spring out at the Hermanus whale festival

South Africa’s coastal offerings are extensive and Hermanus - in particular - is an exceptional place.

Especially when it comes to whale watching. A host of festivals ensure the little Overberg town is firmly on the itinerary of travellers at this time with the official Whale Festival from 27-29 September this year

It started about 26 years ago, allows visitors to celebrate the migration of Southern Right Whales and other marine wildlife with ocean-themed activities and exhibitions, emphasising education and environmentally responsible adventures and activities.

Don't miss Marine Week

The Marine hotel will also be hosting a number of cool events to check out. As one of South Africa’s most spectacular seaside hotels as part of the Liz McGrath Collection, it is located on Hermanus’ famous Cliff Path with its breathtaking views.

"Running from Monday 23 September 2019 to Saturday 28 September 2019, the Whale Week daily events – including talks, a movie screening and exhibition - are open to the public to attend.

"Bookings are essential as there is limited space available for all of the events. The week’s activities will be officially launched to the public by the Hermanus Whale Crier, Thembinkosi 'Bravo' Sabazile, and the Executive Mayor of Overstrand, Dudley Coetzee, who will cut the ribbon on the hotel’s new Whale Bell, which whale-watchers can sound to alert others to a sighting."

Southern Wright Charters and Hermanus Whalewatchers have shared the following footage and pics of the prolific whale activity in the Walker Bay region about a week ago, take a look.
