Cape Town - The rain came down in buckets in Cape Town on Friday morning and locals more than made the most of it.
According to the South African Weather Service, continuous rainfall with possible heavy falls of rain (50mm or more) is expected in the Overberg District during the course of Friday morning, spreading to the coastal areas of the Eden District in the afternoon.
The rainfall, along with the heavy downpours at times, was expected to lead to localized flooding as well as flash flooding - as was the case in Goodwood, Kuils River and Bellville. Motorists are being advised to reduce their travelling speed, turn on those headlamps, and ensure a safe following distance.
The rain comes after weeks of fires and soaring temperatures that have seen the Cape's dam levels fall to alarmingly low rates. The City has since instituted Level 3b water restrictions but locals in and around Cape Town wasted little time in making the most of the rainfall.
