Virgin Atlantic is giving its oldest passengers a very special gift this holiday season — the gift of an upgrade — and it was all inspired by the kindness of a stranger.
It all started in mid-December, when a Virgin Atlantic crew member detailed on Facebook how she witnessed a passenger named Jack give up his first-class seat for an 88-year-old woman named Violet.
The story has since gone viral - and now, the airline wants to do the same for other elderly people like Violet. Virgin Atlantic will be upgrading the oldest person on every flight - up until 1 Jan.
“On behalf of us and @RichardBranson, complimentary upgrades will be offered to the most 'seasoned' customer on board all our flights from today until 1st Jan 2020.”
A Virgin Atlantic crew member details this act of festive kindness on her Facebook page, sharing the tale of Jack and Violet. Jack gave up his luxe First Class seat to an 88-year-old former nurse, Violet, who was travelling to visit her daughter who lives in New York City.
Apparently, the two struck up an 'instant friendship' at the airport and when he got onto the flight he went into Economy Class to find her, and offered Violet his First Class seat.
Leah Amy, the crew member who bared witness to this incredible gesture said "Of the hundreds of flights I’ve operated, I’ve had the pleasure of looking after footballers, supermodels and some Hollywood movie stars but let me tell you about my two favourite passengers EVER!"
Violet had never travelled in First Class before, but according to Travel and Leisure this had always been her dream.
"You should of seen her face, when I tucked her in her bed after supper. She said her daughter won’t believe her, and wanted a ‘selfie’ to prove it, but didn’t have a phone or an email address. These photos are getting sent in the post tomorrow, can you even cope," said Leah Amy.
What an amazing Christmas gift!
