PICS: You won’t believe what happens when rain falls in the driest place on Earth


Cape Town - The world's weather is a bit cray-cray at the moment. 

Scientists, for example, claim 2015 will be the hottest year ever recorded by human beings on this planet!

Yet with this intense weather patterns, there are also some beautiful and never-before-seen spectacles to be seen in nature.

In the Chilean Atacama desert, the spring rain annually transforms the barren wasteland into a beautiful purple paradise. This year, however, with the heavy rains that fell in March already, the desert is blooming more spectacularly than it has in over 18 years!

The flower show in the Atacama desert is not unlike the local flowers of the Namaqualand. This year the Northern Cape daisies were also especially beautiful. You can view a gallery of our favourite photos here: Namaqualand daisies in bloom
