SAA denies free flights report

Cape Town -  South African Airways spokesperson Tlali Tlali says the airline is working with Tourism KwaZulu-Natal to better promote the province but there are no free flights on the cards for international visitors to the city.

media report incorrectly stated that SAA had negotiated a deal with Tourism KwaZulu-Natal (TKZN) to include a free domestic leg for international visitors heading to Durban.

The issue arose after an Indaba workshop held in Durban, in which Boni Mchunu, TKZN’s general manager of marketing reportedly addressed the high costs for international guests landing in Johannesburg who then wanted to visit the city.

Tlali confirmed that SAA and TKZN had discussed ways to develop and strengthen partnerships between the two entities to promote KwaZulu-Natal more but said there had been no agreement to offer free tickets.

“We are working on packages and best fares to promote both SAA’s services and the province and its attractions. This was one of the discussion points of the meeting. There will be no free tickets but best fares as per our pricing strategy. This type of marketing is done for all provinces in SA and for all our markets”

Tlali confirmed initiatives agreed upon with TKZN to grow passenger numbers to the province would be releases once the finer details had been confirmed.
