The truth is that the beach as a date venue is perfect. It’s the only place where going barefoot on date-night will be considered really sexy. It’s also the only place where a really skimpy outfit seems logical on the first date.

1. Clifton beach, Western Cape
Home of the really rich and good-looking, Clifton beach is definitely South Africa’s most romantic beach.
Dubbed the French Riviera of South Africa, by Cape Town Tourism, its scenery has been described to display “yachts floating on a turquoise ocean, white, sandy beaches and beautiful bodies.”
Top tip: Try mobile beauty and spa service, Massage on the Beach as a pre-meal date activity. This will have you and your date feeling completely relaxed and more comfortable with getting to know each other.
2. Umhlanga Rocks, KwaZulu-Natal
The place of reeds, as its Zulu name translates, is also the home of beautiful, Umhlanga beach. Umhlanga Tourism says its long golden sandy beaches, as imagery fitting for this East Coast, South African beach.
Top tip: Have a drink and/or meal at Oyster Box Hotel near the beach, followed by a hand-in-hand stroll down Walkway to the Beach, specially designed for the purpose taking the aforementioned cliché to a five-star level. Besides that, the lighthouse will make for a unique date-night selfie.
3. Noetzie, Garden Route
If treating your partner to scenic royalty is what you’re after, Knysna's Noetzie - that comes replete with a beachfront castles - is where you should be.
Besides dishing up a natural romantic setting, you and your prince charming, if you're that way inclined, can have a seclude, extra-ordinary beach picnic.
Top Tip: Book a stay at Conrad Pezula and get the five-star establishment to arrange a shuttle service and all your picnic paraphernalia ahead of your special little beach escapade.
4. Margate Beach, KwaZulu Natal
We’re not sure why but Margate Beach in KwaZulu-Natal seems to be the hub for wedding proposals- by the look of things on Instagram.
Also, internationally recognised Blue Flag beach, 'Margate' is in close proximity to everything date-night worthy; food, restaurants, board walk, and scenery.
Top tip: If you are planning to ask somebody to go to the forever level with you, pre-book a Mediterranean dinner at one of the restaurants in Margate to set the tone and then head off to the beach for the final part of your special evening.
5. Noup, Northern Cape
Hidden at the near-edge of the Northern Cape, Noup displays the mise-en-scene for a romantic movie – Sand dunes, sea breeze, quiet, and basic.
Make your own memories in one of 10 ungraded huts, equipped with just furniture and bathroom facilities. Any remote place that has a view has potential for romancing.
Top tip: This is the ideal place for you and your loved one to truly unplug from the grid as electricity and internet connectivity are limited - but there are better ways to let the sparks fly wouldn't you agree?
