Cape Town - 100 selected passengers had the chance to be on the inaugural journey of the new lightening fast magnetic levitation (MagLev) train from the city of Uenohara to Fuefuki in the Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan recently.
The train reached a maximum speed of 502km/h at one stage, causing the excited passengers to break out into spontaneous applause on the train.
The 42.8km journey will be experienced by plenty more passengers in the month of December. More than 300 000 people have applied to be selected for the thrilling train ride, but the lottery will only give 2 400 people the chance to experience the high-speed ride over a period of 8 days in December, reports Daily Mail.
The train has small, airplane-like windows to peer out of, but guests can also see the ever-increasing speeds of the train on the monitoring screens mounted to the walls of the train cabins.
The new magnetic levitation railway line, which is expected to be complete in 2027, will cut travel times in half.
